Discrimination
Discrimination occurs where an individual or group of people are treated differently in some way.
Discrimination may be:-
- direct, where the treatment is “less favourable” or
- indirect where a requirement or condition is imposed which is particularly disadvantageous
Legislation governing actions to avoid discrimination is becoming ever more rife and currently covers issues such as:-
- sex
- race
- disability
- religion
- sexual orientation
- age
It is essential that employers are aware of their obligations under the discrimination laws and communicate these to their staff. It is recommended that written policies and procedures exist and be regularly reviewed.
If an individual needs to know whether they may have been discriminated against, we are able to advise and guide them through the steps they need to take.
