Care of the Vulnerable – Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection
Many people find themselves involved with a relative or friend who is becoming incapable of managing their own affairs and may need residential or nursing care. Careful and sympathetic advice is often needed both to protect the interests of the patient and to help other members of the family to manage the responsibilities which fall on them. In many cases the Court of Protection will have to be involved. We can assist with:-
- Preparation of Powers of Attorney where appropriate.
- Registration of Powers of Attorney with the Court, in case of incapacity.
- Appointing a Deputy through the Court, if a Power of Attorney is not appropriate.
- Managing a patient’s affairs, either under a Power of Attorney or after appointing a Deputy.
- Selling or buying property on behalf of the patient.
- Reviewing a patient’s Will and in appropriate cases obtaining the approval of the Court for a new Will for the patient and for gifts and tax planning on their behalf.
- Resolving family disputes about the appointment of Attorneys and Deputies and about the management of a patient’s affairs generally
