Making your Will
More than two-thirds of the UK population do not have a current Will. Making a Will creates certainty, reduces worry and gives you the peace of mind of knowing exactly how your money, property and possessions will be dealt with after your death.
A Will guides those who are left behind and saves worry and heartache at a time of emotional stress. Making a Will is usually the first step in structuring your affairs in order to minimise your liability for Inheritance Tax.
A properly prepared Will can:
- name Executors, who will be responsible for carrying out your wishes.
- name guardians for your children.
- use your personal Inheritance Tax exemption effectively.
- leave legacies to relatives, friends and charities.
- make bequests of your personal and household possessions.
- ensure that your general estate will pass to your partner or children or others on the terms you wish.
- protect your children’s inheritance.
- establish trusts for young children and others in need of financial protection.
- provide flexibility for long-term tax planning.
If you die without making a Will, your estate can be divided according to artificial rules which can produce strange and unwelcome results. How many people know that an unmarried partner has no automatic right to any part of his or her partner's estate?
In addition to our Will service, we can offer advice on Inheritance Tax saving, and on related financial planning.
